Organised by the Department of Facial, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and overseen by Prof. Dr Dr József Piffkó, a 3-day accredited international course took place, titled: “Three-day international postgraduate course”.
According to the course description, on the first day participants got an insight into the following the topics: The significance and epidemiology of head and neck cancer; Tumour diagnostics, staging and the factors influencing survival; Multidisciplinary treatment I. – The role of radiotherapy in head and neck cancer treatment; Multidisciplinary treatment II. – Modern principles of chemotherapy and target therapy in head and neck cancer treatment; Multidisciplinary treatment III. – Ablative and reconstructive procedures in surgical oncology, and block dissection of the neck; The significance of the reconstructive ladder in surgical procedures; Roundtable discussion, case analysis. On the second day the following topics were discussed: Microsurgery: Surgical sutures, suturing techniques and the role of magnification; Who? When? What? Why? Patient preparation; Free flaps I. (forearm, fibula, ALT flap); Free flaps II. (IMECS, PAP, gracilis, latissimus flap); Digital planning in reconstructive surgery; Roundtable discussion, case analysis. On the third day there was a microvascular flap surgery demonstration.
